6,100+ Sick in Michigan as Cyclospora Investigation Continues
The FDA confirmed on Monday that it still considers Taylor Farms' lettuce from Mexico to be the source of a Cyclospora outbreak linked to Taco Bell restaurants across five states, despite a previous lab test being declared a false positive on Sunday. Former FDA commissioner Scott Gottlieb explained that investigators are relying on strong epidemiological evidence rather than that specific test, as the contaminated lettuce actually entered the supply chain weeks ago. The outbreak has sickened thousands—with Michigan reporting over 6,100 cases—and has temporarily reduced customer foot traffic at Taco Bell. Canada remains unaffected by the situation.
